Originally planned as fieldwork-focused activity, the course ough to adapt to the pandemic conditions, switching online. Accordingly, a reshuffle of its program became necessary.
It is then organized on two tenets: plenary lectures and seminars.
Approaching general theoretical topics or relevant comparative analysis, lectures are splitted in two segments: one, pre-recorded, available to the students as propedeutic to the second segment, the online interactive lecture that may be held in a limited time, given the span of students' time -zone residences.
Lectures are arranged in three theoretical blocks: Heritage, Tradition, Identity, each one introduced, presented and commented starting from ethnographic approach and open to explore the applicative or critical perspectives.
Seminars are full interactive; for such reason the students have been divided in two groups, so to make possible the interaction according to their home timing. Both seminars, Sunrise seminar and Sunset seminar, will be focused on the creation of a learning community (the first two sessione) then seminars will offer the possibility of exploring ethnographic materials from the case study, i.e. the system Palio and Contrade of Siena.
Virtual visit to Contrade museums and premises; meeting with relevant actors of Palio's event; focus groups with Contrade' members.
